Halloween Candy Bark

Halloween Candy Bark

Not going to lie- I am not a big #spookyszn gal. Halloween just does not do it for me, I am way more into Thanksgiving and Christmas. So, trying to think of clever and creative ideas for Halloween has been challenging, to say the least. I bought these Halloween Sprinkles and the little eyeballs just really, spoke to me?? And then I had an idea to combine the things I like most about Halloween: candy, clever decor, and THE ORANGE FILLING OREOS. (they hit harder than normal oreos I can’t explain it) Now, you can buy whatever toppings you want to use for this bark, these are just the things I wanted in mine!

what you need:

what you need to do:

  • Arrange all of your toppings as neatly as you can, as you have to arrange them very quickly because the candy melts tend to harden very quickly! I arranged mine in little bowls and kept them on a tray right by my workstation.
  • Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper and set near the toppings.
  • Put your candy melts into a microwave safe bowl (or BOWLS if you are using two different colors) and melt them as the package instructs.
  • I put the white layer on the bottom and then topped with green, so I heated the white first.
  • Be VERY CAREFUL not to overheat them as they will clump up and be unusable if you do so.
  • If you DO overheat them, add in 1 tablespoon of crisco and mix and and mix until it becomes smooth again.
  • I did mine for 1 minute, stirred, 30 seconds, stirred, 30 more seconds.
  • After the melts reach your desired consistency, add in 1 tablespoon of crisco and mix until the crisco has completely melted.
  • Pour the first layer onto your parchment lined cookie sheet, and then using your straight edge spatula, smooth it out to your desired thickness.
  • If you are using two colors: follow the same steps as above and then smooth the second color on top of the first until they are evenly spread out.
  • Once the second layer of candy melts is added you MUST ACT QUICKLY as they harden fast. This is the order of how I added toppings:
    • Sprinkles, get these bad boys on first since they will fall off and get very messy if they don’t stick
    • Large pieces: Oreos and pretzels
    • Medium pieces: candy corn
    • Small pieces: eyeball sprinkles, placed one by one
  • Make sure you are pressing the toppings into the chocolate GENTLY, but also firmly to make sure they are set.
  • Once you have all of the toppings on, place it into the fridge to let it set for about an hour.
  • Remove from the fridge and let it sit at room temp for about 20 minutes before cutting it, if you do it while the bark is still super cold, it will be harder to cut and the toppings will come off way easier.
  • When you cut it, try to go around the larger pieces as they tend to come up rather easily.
  • All done! Trick or treat!
